It's officially summer on both the calendar and in the weather forecast. Woo-hoo! Let's kick it off with some upcoming events, a whole list of ideas for every age and another quick list of classes/camps for those of us (me included) that are still looking for options.

Updated my bucket list from last year's post. It's a mix of things we've done and ones we'd like to do.
Preschool
Preschool
- Try a new playground.
- Discover an un-playground playground.
- Explore the beach at low tide.
- Cool off at a wading pool, spray park or pool.
- Check out a new park.
- Take a look at these places for learning to ride a bike.
- Have a kiddo that loves heavy machinery at work? Do a terminal tour at Jack Block Park.
- Take a ferry ride, making sure to check out a cool park right next to the Fauntleroy ferry terminal before or after.
- Participate in the Summer Reading Program at Seattle Public Library.
- Collect beach glass along Alki Beach and then visit Whale Tail Park.
- Explore the Duwamish—the river, multiple parks, a longhouse and cultural center, activity booklet and more.
Kindergarten-5th grade
- Try a new playground.
- Discover an un-playground playground.
- Explore the beach at low tide.

- Try biking a longer trail with fun stops.
- Take a ferry ride, making sure to check out a cool park right next to the Fauntleroy ferry terminal before or after.

- Climb the highest stair in Seattle located right here in WS.
- Check out an urban nature adventure with these tree walks.
- Participate in the Summer Reading Program at Seattle Public Library.
- Explore secret spots in West Seattle or hidden-ish gems on Vashon.
- Take a day trip to Des Moines to discover UFOs, donuts, pinball and more.
- Rainy day? Check out summer skate Wednesdays at Southgate Roller Rink.
Tween/Teens
- Explore paddleboard/kayaking spots.
- Go swimming at Colman Pool.
- Try a new sport—Pickleball at Delridge and Walt Huntley, Skimboarding at Alki or Disc golf at Dick Thurnau Park which is just over the WS limits in White Center.
- Do a biking day trip (or overnight) from the Fauntleroy ferry dock to Manchester State Park and back.
- Giving back—This is a big one in our family and there are several options to volunteer in a variety of ways. Here's a post I did with oodles of options.
- Play a new game with friends at home or at one of the two gaming cafes—Meeples Games on the north end and The Missing Piece on the south end.
- Catch a movie at the Admiral Theater. Bonus if it’s a hot day — they have AC.
- Check out TeenTix, a cool program for 13-19 years old to experience art. In normal years ArtsWest is a participant but until then there are a lot of online options.
- Explore secret spots in West Seattle or hidden-ish gems on Vashon.

- Biking with Pedalheads
Camps for ages 2 and up at South Seattle College. Full day and half day. - Parkour@Lincoln Park
Ages 7-13. A few week long camps in the afternoon (1:30-4:30PM). All currently waitlisted but there’s an option to do private camps. Other locations have availability. - Skate Like a Girl summer camps
Camps at Delridge are currently all waitlisted but ones at Jefferson, which is close-ish, still have space. - RecTennis Summer Camp@Solstice Park
Ages 6-14, multiple sessions between June 10 and September 2. Monday-Friday, 8AM-12PM. - GreenStage—Shakespeare Summer Camps
Ages 5-16, June 27-Aug 19. Delridge Community Center and High Point Commons. - Summer of Safety for tween/teens
Drop-in program at the Delridge Community Center. Ages 11-15. July 5-Aug 26, Monday-Friday 12-5PM. - Young Women Empowered (Y-WE)
Variety of camps for young women. Locations vary but some are as close as South Park. - All City Band
Outside West Seattle but a lot of kiddos here (including one of mine) trek to Memorial Stadium three nights a week to practice. They then march and perform in parades all summer long. Ages: high schoolers, including rising 9th graders. It starts this week and you can still join for the next couple weeks. They also do a performance at SWAC the night before the Torchlight Parade if you're interested to just see what it's about. This year's Band Jam is on Friday, July 29th from 7-9PM. - Twelfth Night Productions Acting Class for Youth
Two week drama camp at Youngstown (Aug 1-12). Ages 13-18. - Nike Soccer Camp at Delridge Playfields Added 7/5/22
